DIRECTIONS to Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point

How to get, there

Take l-10 west of Phoenix to exit #112 (Hwy.85). Follow highway to Gila Bend. At the west end of Gila Bend take a right just before McDonald's (there is a sign that says Mexico).

Continue south on Hwy. 85 through Ajo, Why and Lukeville (Gringo Pass). You can stop in any of these towns and purchase Mexican Insurance. At the border there is a market, post office, gas station, restaurant, motel and RV park

As you cross the Mexican border proceed slowly. Here there is a random check done by

Mexican officials. As you come through the border there. is a light system in front of

you. If you get the green light (pase) you are free to continue on - unless they flag
you over! If you get the red light, a bell sounds and one of the officers will wave you

over to the left. There, they will look into your vehicle to make sure you do not have

anything illegal or over your limit. If you plan to go past Penasco (the free-zone) you

must stop here and obtain your visa and car permit papers (if you plan to drive your

vehicle).

As you cross the border, you are now in Sonoyta. Continue down that road south 1 mile

until you come upon a stop sign. At the stop sign make a left hand turn. Continue on that

road. When you come to a fork in the road - stay to your right. Vazquez liquor and
curio shop will be on your left. Just past this there is a stop-light. Once through the

stop light continue down the road. Up about 1/4 of a mile there is a flashing light this

is for the crosswalk. You are on Highway 8 and have a straight shot to Puerto Penasco.

While on this road watch out for cows, goats, wildlife, pedestrians and slow moving

vehicles. Continue on Hwy. 8 for appx. 66 miles and now you are in Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point.) It is recommended that you do not drive at night. Rocky Point is about 212 miles from Phoenix or Tucson.
